Imagine human society, then take away building materials. It is fairly easy to comprehend that building materials are of paramount importance for societies infrastructure, without building materials and the engineering skill to use them our society would not exist. Since most building materials been around for quite some time (several generations) it is ok to ask if there is really more to know about common building materials? Both things that are known about building materials and unknowns will be presented. The renewable natural resource wood will be given as an example of the connection between material research and sustainable constructions.
