V okviru 228. doktorskega seminarja Grajeno okolje bo imel(-a) dr. Urška Demšar, School of Geography & Sustainable Development at the University of St Andrews, Scotland, UK predavanje z naslovom:

Studying migratory bird navigation with spatial data science

Migratory birds are facing an unprecedented rapid decline caused by loss of habitat and climate change. To mitigate this decline and protect them we need to learn as much as possible about what they experience on their journeys and how this affects their migration. Advances in animal tracking (e.g. through minituarisation of GPS tags) provide detailed information on where and when birds migrate. However, finding out what they actually experience on their journeys at a particular location in space and moment in time and how they use this information for navigation, is a challenging task that cannot be answered through tracking alone.

Dr. Urška Demšar is Senior Lecturer (Associate Professor) in Geoinformatics in the School of Geography & Sustainable Development at the University of St Andrews, Scotland, UK. She has a PhD in Geoinformatics from the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH), Stockholm, Sweden and a background in Applied Mathematics from the University of Ljubljana, Slovenia. She is currently Associate Editor of the International Journal of Geographical Information Science and in the period 2015-2019 she was co-chair of the International Cartographic Association commission on Visual Analytics (http://viz.icaci.org). Her research is in movement analytics – a topic on which she is collaborating with movement researchers from other disciplines.

Predstavitev bo v četrtek, 12. 5. 2022, ob 16.00 v Svečani dvorani (FGG).

Vljudno vabljeni.
